Clara wasn’t someone you could summarize neatly. She was layered — soft and fierce, patient and stubborn, tender and tough all at once.
Family was everything to her. She carried the lessons of her parents, Elder John Watson Sr. and Addie Watson, and poured that same devotion into her children, her grandchildren, and her siblings. She loved hard, showed up when it mattered, and gave her heart without conditions.
If you were part of her circle, you didn’t have to wonder where you stood. She had a way of keeping you in line and lifting you up in the same breath. Her honesty could make you pause, but her love never left you guessing.
Clara didn’t bend to fit into anyone’s idea of who she should be. She trusted herself — her faith, her instincts, her sense of right and wrong. When she believed in something, she stood firm. Not for show, but because that’s who she was.
She moved through life with her own rhythm. Sometimes it wasn’t the easy path, but it was hers — guided by her heart, her humor, and a quiet strength that carried her exactly where she meant to go.
Family & Legacy
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Liggins (d. 2012); by Willie B. Davis (d. 1991) and Sam Wooten (d. 2015), with whom she shared the joy of raising children; by her daughter Cheryl Marie Liggins (d. 1987); her parents, Elder John Watson, Sr. (d. 2023) and Addie Watson (d. 2021); and her brother Norvel Watson (d. 2018).
She is survived by her dear companion Rodney Greene, who brought laughter and light into her later years.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Earl Liggins II (Michelle), Pride Davis (Lauren), Jaccob Watson, and Addie Vannice (Justin).
Her beloved grandchildren: Ethan, McKenna, Pride Jr., Autumn, Summer, Owen, Karaline, and Enid.
Her siblings: Janice Brown (Malcolm), Dana Richardson, John Watson Jr. (Jackie), Benard Watson (Cynthia), Hosanna Watson, Marietta Jessup, Annette Watson-Johnson (Reginald), Demetrius Watson (Karen), and Donnell Watson.
And a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Her Spirit
Clara loved to laugh—and when she did, it filled the room. She loved to dance—not to perform, but to live. She had that special kind of light that could turn an ordinary moment into something you wanted to stay in a little longer.
She didn’t need to announce her strength; it showed up quietly in the way she kept going when she was tired, in how she forgave, and in how she always found beauty in everyday life.
If you remember anything about Clara, remember this: She lived. She really lived. And she did it her way.
