Darlyn Ottoise Drayton was born on February 6, 1939, in Clayton, Missouri to the union of Mr. Otto and Mrs. Alma Drayton. Darlyn’s father, Mr. Otto Drayton died in a tragic auto accident when she was an infant. Darlyn’s mother married Arthur Claiborne August 1, 1948, and he was a wonderful father. Otto Drayton, Alma Drayton, and Arthur Claiborne preceded her in death.
Darlyn was educated in the Kirkwood school district. After high school, she continued her education at Tucker Business College and Meramec Community College.
Darlyn confessed a hope in Christ Jesus as a child and was baptized at the Unity Baptist Church of Kirkwood, Missouri, after moving to University City in 1968, she became a member of the Baptist Church of the Holy Communion in January 1976.
She served in various ministries in the church including printing the bulletins, taught Vacation Bible school and was regularly active with the Pastor's Aid Group. No matter the assignment she was faithful to perform her duties until completion.
As a young woman, Darlyn was united in holy matrimony with Joseph D. Washington. To this union, Darlyn had a son, Keenan Joseph Washington was born (who preceded her in death).
Darlyn retired from the Division of Family Services in August of 1994. (Nursing home caseworker). She began a second career with Saint Louis County Library (Thornhill Branch) In November 1994 and retired in September 2004.
Darlyn’s favorite pastimes included watching sports and game shows, and walking.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving son, Keenan Joseph Washington, special friends, John and Donna Miller, Richard McAllister. A host of relatives, church family and friends.
