Edward B. Smith, II

Edward Bunn Smith II, affectionately known to family and friends as “LB,” passed away on June 6, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on September 18, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Edward Bunn Smith I and Charlotte Friar Smith, Edward spent his entire life in the city he proudly called home.

Edward was the fourth of five children and was raised in a close-knit family that helped shape the values he carried throughout his life. He was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent more than 35 years as a line cook at Chris’ Pancake and Dining. Known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence, he took great pride in his work and the relationships he built over the years.

Edward was previously married to Lizabeth Young Smith, and together they welcomed their daughter, Ashley Smith, whom he loved dearly. For more than 40 years, he shared a loving and devoted partnership with his significant other, Tracey Gines. Through their life together, Edward embraced and loved Tracey’s children as his own.

He was a proud grandfather to Lillian Henderson, Bretton Evans Jr., and Jamaal Allen, Jr. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.

Outside of work, Edward enjoyed barbecuing, listening to music, and gathering with family and friends. He believed in loyalty, valued hard work, and knew the importance of enjoying life. Whether cooking for loved ones, sharing stories, or simply spending time with those closest to him, Edward had a way of making people feel welcome and appreciated.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Bunn Smith I and Charlotte Friar Smith; his sister, Veronica Irby; and his brother, Ira Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Ashley Smith; his son-in-law, Bretton Evans, Sr; his grandchildren, Lillian Henderson, Bretton Evans, Jr., and Jamaal Allen, Jr.; his siblings, Eric Smith and Vernice Durgins; his longtime companion, Tracey Gines; his stepchildren, Adelina Gines, Stella Gines, Stony Billings, Victoria Gines, Tony Rome Billings, and Horace Woolfolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Edward’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, hard work, and joy. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
