Life’s Reflection
Jacquelyn Ann Alexander was born to the union of the late Ordria and Mary E. Brooks Alexander on June 6, 1949 in Jacksonville, Texas. She was the middle of seven children. Her parents and one brother, Oliver Wayne Alexander preceded her in death.
Jacquelyn was educated and graduated from Fred Douglass High School. She then ventured to Dallas to attend Bishop College, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in English in 1971.
After graduating from college, Jacquelyn relocated to Kansas City, Missouri to reside with her siblings. She worked as a substitute teacher and later as a Social Worker. In 1978, she moved to St. Louis due to her marriage to Walter Alexander. This union produced two spiritual, loving, and beautiful daughters, Alisha and Alexis.
A faithful servant, Jacquelyn and her family joined Washington Metropolitan AME Zion Church in 1982. She loved her church and participated in numerous ministries, which involved assisting needy individuals, and fundraisers. Over the years, she was a Class Leader, Secretary of the Parent Body Missionary Society, and the Livingstone College Alumni Association, and she served as the St. Louis District Life Member’s Chairman as well the Local Life Member’s Chairman. Jacquelyn loved praise and worship and was the Cheer Coordinator as a member of the Voices of Zion Choir.
In 2009, with 30 years of service, Jacquelyn retired as a Probation and Parole Officer with the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole. Her philosophy while working with clients was to “treat everyone with respect; no matter what crime he or she has committed.”
Jacquelyn loved to dance, watch crime shows, and spend time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Left to cherish Jacquelyn’s life and legacy are her daughter and Son-In-Love, Alisha Walker and LeKeith, her grandchildren, Addison and Karter, her daughter Dr. Alexis Alexander, her siblings Lessie Thompson (Chester), Roy Alexander (Theresa), Belinda Griffin, Mitchell Alexander (Sharon), and Yolanda Gail Alexander-Reed, as well as a host of extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former co-workers, classmates, and church members. All of us who loved her will miss her smile, laughter, style, and her loving and gracious spirit.
