Lois Peeples Obituary

Lois Edna Rose “Baby O” Peeples, nicknamed "Baby O" by her Uncle Bob, lived a vibrant and multifaceted life defined by creativity, resilience, and generosity.  She began her education at St. Nicholas Grade School, and matriculated to De'Andre High School, where she obtained her high school diploma. Her professional journey was as dynamic as her spirit. She spent nearly twenty years working at Miss Elaine's Lingerie Factory as a Seamstress.  When her career ended via a company layoff; she didn't let that stop her. She went on to pursue new paths as a Cosmetologist, Tax Preparer, School Bus Driver and a home-based Early Childhood Educator.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lois was deeply committed to caring for others. She served as both a foster parent and child care provider, opening her heart and home to many children for over 40 years. Her nurturing nature left an indelible mark on those in her care.

Although private about her spirituality, her belief and faith in God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ never wavered.

Lois expressed herself most joyfully through creativity. Sewing was more than just a profession and hobby; it was a God-given gift that she embraced with passion and pride. It was through her sewing that she expressed love to her extended family and felt appreciated and valued.  Her culinary talents were equally celebrated and always requested during the holiday season.  She found joy in decorating spaces, taking on DIY projects with enthusiasm, solving word and jigsaw puzzles that challenged the mind, and watching action-packed movies that kept her entertained. Lois was a gardener with a green thumb who planted vegetable gardens that successfully fed her family during lean times.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved son Darrin Lee Smith; parents Mamie A. Sloan Peeples and Hazael Peeples; sisters Marjorie Peeples Hogan and Reveille Peeples; and brother John Peeples. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Denise Smith Jackson; her grandsons Solomon Xaiver Jackson and Simeon Xerxes Jackson; sisters Patricia Peeples Barnes and Dorothy Peeples Ohiomoba; along with several nieces/grandnieces and nephews/grandnephews who carry forward the memories of love she so generously shared.

A memorial service is planned for April 24, 2025 (details below).  Please note, Lois was not pretentious and often delighted in rebelling against formalities; therefore, attendees are encouraged to depart from the color black and wear "comfortable and cheerful attire".  Yellow and orange were Lois' favorite colors and will be a fitting tribute to honor her smile and bright, stubborn spirit.

May the memory of Lois Edna Rose "Baby O" Peeples bring comfort and joy to all who knew her, and may the light she brought into this world continue to shine brightly through those whose lives she touched.
