Michael “Big Mike” Goins was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 1, 1945, to Evelyn Williamson Goins and Orville Goins, Sr. He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother Orville Goins, Jr.
After graduation from Vashon High School, he joined the United States Air Force. Upon his return home, Michael attended Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique and was employed at City Hospital of St. Louis as a Laboratory Technician.
Michael later enrolled at the University of Missouri – St. Louis where he completed his degree in Social Work. He started this profession working for the Salvation Army. He then worked for the State of Missouri Department of Mental Health from where he retired.
Michael confessed Christ and was baptized in 1996 at the McAlmont Church of Christ in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He became a faithful member of the Berkeley Heights/Ferguson Heights Church of Christ until his declining health no longer allowed his attending in person.
On September 21, 1996, Michael married the love of his life, Nova. He enjoyed traveling with her and most of all, keeping her smiling and laughing.
Big Mike was known to have a “stylish” sense of dressing and was playfully called “Denzel” by many.
Michael Goins departed this life on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Jefferson Barracks Hospice Care. He is survived by his faithful and loving wife, Nova Goins, his sons, Michael Goins and Terrance Collins; his daughters, Carmen Garland (Clarence), Sharmen Goins, Michale Barnes (Relton); stepchildren, Beverly Alexander, Darryl Parker (Rhonda), LaKisha Malone (Gerald); a sister, Sherrill Bonds; twenty-four grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a loving church family.
