Murtis Mae Hudson was born to the late Murline (Murt) Dodd and Thomas Jefferson (T. J.) Dodd on November 15, 1951, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was affectionately known as “Dump.”
Following her graduation from Tipton Street High School, Murtis attended Jackson State University. She was born and raised in Kosciusko, MS, where she met the love of her life. On December 27, 1971, she united in holy matrimony to Casey M. Hudson. This union was blessed with one son Cedrick Jeffrey Hudson. They built their lives in St. Louis, Missouri. Murtis worked at Missouri Hills Juvenile Corrections as a childcare worker, followed by St. Louis City Correctional Medium Security Institution, as a correctional officer until retirement.
Murtis treasured time with her family and enjoyed traveling, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters. She loved being a great- grandmother “GG” to her great- grandchildren, and “Aunt Dump” to her nieces and nephews. She was meticulous about all aspects of her life.
Murtis was preceded in death by her parents Murt and T.J. Dodd, and sister, Lavis Dodd Grayson.
Murtis went home to the Lord on June 4, 2025. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; devoted husband, Casey M. Hudson; dedicated son, Cedric Jeffery Hudson; lovable grandchildren, Mariko Garner, Shamari Hudson Sr. (Adrieona), and Ontaria Shaye Hudson; great-grandchildren, Karson Hudson, Shamari Hudson Jr., Zamarion Garner, Arriyah Levy, Mason Newsome, Eyan Cummings, Eryn Cummings, Ramoine Garner, and Trevon Garner; three devoted Sisters, Annie M. Franklin, Toledo, OH, Doris Dodd Jones, Ridgeland, MS, and Allene Dodd Lewis, Kosciusko, MS; aunt, Earl Dean Dodd; brother-in-law, Percy Headd (Latrena); sister-in-law, Beatrice Hudson; and she was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Special thanks to Maria Chatman, and Kathy Vann for their continuous love and support.
