Roland Logan Obituary

Roland Edward Logan was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and respected veteran who completed his earthly journey on March 5, 2025 in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Born on February 5, 1943, Roland was an identical twin to Ralph. The two brothers shared a strong bond of brotherly love all of their lives. Roland was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Eddie Mae Williams Logan, brother Ralph Logan, sister-in-law Betty Logan, and several aunts and uncles.
From the time of his boyhood, Roland was a member of Land Tabernacle CME Church, where his family maintained a dynamic presence. The teachings of the Church planted in Roland a strong faith from which he drew strength all of his life.
Roland graduated from Soldan High School in 1961 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1965. From 1965 to 1969, he showed his true patriotism by serving in the United States Air Force, receiving numerous awards including the National Defense Service Medal for Vietnam veterans, and later in the St. Louis Air Force Reserves from 1969-1971.
Roland remained active serving with the St. Louis Fire Fighter's Association, Local 73, Truck 7-A. During his tenure he earned Captain status and dedicated himself to helping others for 27 years. Because of his commitment and passion, he remained active in the St. Louis Association of Retired Fire Fighters and the American Legion, St. Louis Post 0077 and Greenbelt Post 136. As a member of the Firefighter's Institute for Racial Equality (F.I.R.E.), Roland fought for African American firefighters' employment rights. He was committed to the fight for racial equality, a lifelong mission. Roland enjoyed having lunch with his fellow firefighters and his pass times included enjoying action movies, visiting the Kennedy Center, and watching the History Channel. He was a kind and compassionate soul, always ready to help those in need.
On September 28, 2001, Roland married Cynthia Simmons Cooper and they made Beltsville, Maryland their home until the time of his death. Staying true to their love and marriage, Cynthia committed herself to Roland's well-being.
To cherish his memory, Captain Logan leaves behind his loving wife of 23 years, Cynthia; his sons Patrick, Corey (Jamika), and Benjamin Logan, all of St. Louis, MO; bonus daughter Jackqulyne (Michael) Ulferts and sister Verlye (DeOnne) Logan-Hudson, all of Minneapolis, MN.
