Ronald James Smiley, a beloved husband, father, teacher, and devoted servant of God, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 19, 1944.
He was the fourth of five children born to the late Melonee and Roscoe Smiley Sr. After a life marked by faith, dedication, and compassion, Ron went to sleep peacefully in the Lord on September 6, 2025.
Ron's journey of service began with his education. Earning his Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Minnesota, Ron embarked on a career dedicated to nurturing young minds as a primary and secondary school teacher. Yet, it was in teaching Sabbath School that Ron discovered his true calling-a vocation he embraced with unwavering passion for over forty years. Through his true servanthood and guidance, he touched countless lives.
On August 28, 1994, Ron united in holy matrimony the love of his life and partner in ministry, Velma Smiley. Together, they formed a steadfast team dedicated to advancing the kingdom of God. Their shared vision led to the founding of Issacar Ministries-"Evangelizing the Sinner, Exalting the Savior"-a nonprofit organization through which they spread the good news of the Gospel. For more than twenty years, Ron and Velma conducted in-home bible studies, New Believer's classes, and a faithful weekly Prophecy class.
Ron's legacy is one of love, faith, and unwavering commitment. He was a beacon of light whose influence will continue to resonate through the lives of his family, friends, and community for years to come. He will certainly have many stars in his crown in Heaven!
Ron leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Velma, three sons, Donald (Tiffany), Demetris (Kiisha), and David (Chelsea), nine grandchildren, Ashley, Shelby, Jarrid, Farrah, Ania, Leah, Cameron, McCai, and Kaylen. He is also survived by his brother, Roscoe Smiley Jr. (Rosa); his sister, Charlotte Stokes (John); as well as four nieces and seven nephews.
